Sustainability Stories

As environmental and energy consultants, our pioneering approach has pushed the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to transitioning to renewable energy. Thanks to innovation, we have supported organisations in designing and implementing efficient, climate-friendly solutions.

Here are the clients we now consider colleagues, who have helped to combat the environmental crisis and drive the change to sustainable energy. Plus, our own journey to carbon-neutral at Hillside HQ.

Gloucestershire College

Our team designed and organised a net-zero plan to enable the college to achieve its objective of becoming net zero by 2030.

It included an energy retrofit alongside transport, waste, and supply chain changes supported by a 20-year economic model.

Borders College

We supported Borders College, Galashiels in the implementation of a renewable heating system.

With Hillside's help, they successfully adopted new-to-market technology and an economic business model to reduce their carbon emissions.

Play this video to see our work with Gloucestershire College in action and learn how we are helping them to improve their carbon footprint by switching to renewable energy.

Our environmental management work enabled Borders College to qualify as a finalist for (then win!) The EAUC Green Gown and The Scottish Green Energy Awards, take a look...

Hillside provided feasibility support in the deployment of heat pump technology and evaluated the extensive sewer infrastructure around the development.

At the heart of the project was an ambition to adopt low-carbon and smart energy systems that remove reliance on fossil fuel, reduce incidents of fuel poverty, and support a range of social improvements for the area.

NHS Property Services

Working with Faithful & Gould, Hillside was commissioned to review and recommend energy savings and carbon footprint reduction opportunities for 4,000 NHS primary care facilities.

We developed a business case for the NHS with estimated carbon emissions savings of 55%, with the capital investment to be paid out of annual cost savings.

Raymond Brown Quarry Products

Hillside developed a report on Raymond Brown Quarry Products current environmental impact and a plan to help them reduce their carbon emissions over the coming months and years.

We also identified cost savings and market opportunities that enabled them to progress their commercial agenda.

Highfields School

We developed a business case that will help the school to reduce emissions by 74%, with the capital investment being paid out of annual savings, leading to an eventual profit.

We supported them in developing a deep energy retrofit including insulation of the building. This enabled a competitive application for a grant to the UK Government's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project

We helped Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project develop an investment model, allowing the team to approach investors and access finance to progress the strategic vision.

The Greater Lincolnshire chalk streams provide drinking water and homes to many threatened species so we were proud to support the Project in protecting them.

Hillside goes carbon-neutral

At Hillside, we strive for social and environmental justice. So, we mean it when we say we practice what we preach and walk the walk.

We’re a carbon-neutral business, so we won’t add to your emissions, as you can see by our own renewable energy installations.
